Walk and Cycle The Camino Portugués Trail

Bra Image

New for 2024!

This lesser travelled pilgrim route ‘Camino da Costa’, includes 3 days of Cycling, followed by 3 days of Walking... from the colourful city of Porto, Portugal to the historic streets of Santiago de Compostella, in Northern Spain.

Starting at the Cathedral in Porto, it covers 173 miles of rugged Atlantic coastline; following remote coastal paths and forest trails, passing through small towns and villages along the way. The climax of your journey will be reaching the famous Obradoiro Square and Cathedral Santiago, a feeling that will stay with you forever!

This 173-mile adventure in 6 days has it all!

Whilst the terrain is not technically difficult, this challenge offers WTW Pilgrims something very different... not only cycling and walking, covering the distance in 6 days, but the adventure of travelling from one country to another, crossing borders by taxi-boat across the River Minho!

A challenge like no other for you to take on in 2024... a test of will and determination plus an incredible and unforgettable personal journey!

Fundraising

How much do I need to raise?

We ask that everyone who enters The Camino Portugués 2024, aims to raise a minimum of £850. To help, we have broken this down, with fundraising deadlines along the way! For more information see here!

Can you help me with my fundraising?

Absolutely! We have a fantastic fundraising team who will help you along the way, by telephone and email.

Training

You will be provided with an exclusive Camino Portugués to Santiago Training Plan to make sure you are at your peak fitness for the Challenge. Walk the Walk have been training teams for over 25 years so we know exactly what you have to do!

14-week Training Plan will be sent out with your Walker Pack. For this challenge, you will need to commit to the training plan. It can be intense as it includes consecutive days of training walks and also cycling days, so you will need to consider your time. What we can guarantee is that the Training Plan will fully prepare you to walk and cycle 173 miles over 6 consecutive days. Alongside this, we also recommend taking part in other activities such as swimming or Pilates, an ideal companion to walking, in order to increase your overall level of fitness.

The route is split into two... Cycling and Walking!

Cycling, is a mix of on-road, and off-road pathways. The walking is a variety of tarmac,  stone or dirt paths depending on the area.

Whilst the terrain is not extreme in any way and in the main comfortable, the challenge is in the overall distance covered and with the two disciplines of cycling and walking.

The cycling is not extreme and is suitable for anyone who can ride a bike... however, we would recommend that if you have not ridden a bike for some time that you do include it into your training and preparation.

By the time we arrive in Porto, all members of the Team must feel comfortable cycling on roads, and have a competent level of road safety, be able to signal with either hand and feel confident to ride amongst traffic where needed.
